On the 27 th September 1977, the Yak & Yeti opened as a 120 room, 5-star hotel – the first of its kind in Nepal. A new wing of an additional 125 rooms was built in harmony with the architectural features of the old palace, Lal Durbar, bringing the room total to 245.The whole hotel is a sumptuous array of beautiful artefacts, art and traditionally crafted fixtures. Attention to detail has been meticulously considered throughout, giving the feeling you aren’t just in a hotel as much as an art gallery or museum.
The original palace, Lal Durbar or Red Palace, is over 100 years old and you can enjoy many of the original heritage interiors that have been lovingly maintained. At the epicentre of the hotel’s rich history, Lal Durbar now hosts a grand ballroom, a casino, banquet rooms and our famous Chimney restaurant.Read more about the full history of the Yak & Yeti’s evolution to its present day splendour.
